I am happy to be a husband of 13 years to my wonderful wife (who coincidentally is also a teacher) and father to two rambunctious and precocious girls and a very young son. We have two dogs that also keep us quite busy. In our pre-parenthood days we enjoyed traveling and seeing the sights the world has to offer. I have been fortunate to visit Europe, Costa Rica, New Zealand, and Australia. My family is also a frequent visitor of National Parks around the United States with Great Smokey Mountain National Park being one of our favorites. We hope to return to traveling one day. Soon. Until then my days are filled with Sesame Street and changing diapers and I couldn't be happier.
I was born in Detroit, Michigan just outside of my family's cultural home of Hamtramck. Growing up I attended both parochial and public school before graduating from Stevenson High School in Sterling Heights, Michigan. After high school, I attended the University of Detroit Mercy and obtained my Bachelor's of Science with majors in Biology and History, with a minor in Chemistry. During my Senior year I began substitute teaching to earn some extra money and realized that I wanted to be a teacher. From there I joined the Alternative Teacher Certification Program at Saginaw Valley State University and completed my student teaching in the year 2002. After a year of long term substitute teaching my first full time job teaching was at Heilmann Middle School in Detroit Public Schools. Three fulfilling but challenging years later I accepted a teaching position at Sterling Heights High School and taught many different subjects. After two years I was transferred to Carter Middle School and was a seventh grade science teacher and football coach. Another transfer landed me as a Biology, Chemistry, and Forensics teacher at Warren Mott . In the summer of 2012, just before the birth of my daughter. I found out I was being involuntarily transferred from Warren Mott High School to Community High School. I was less than pleased. I thought I had found a home at Warren Mott and I had made many good friends. However, sometimes life gives us what we need instead of what we want. At Community High I found many things that are in short supply in many other schools: smaller class sizes, a focus on helping students, and a fun and flexible staff that shares my passion for helping young people discover their personal best. While I may not have chosen to come to Community High, I have chosen to stay and make it a home. |
